FAQ - Frequently asked questions

There are air shot-blast machines and turbine-wheel shot-blast machines. The name of the machine refers to the type of acceleration used for the abrasive shot material. With turbine-wheel shot-blast machines, the abrasive is centrally guided into a turbine wheel and from there distributed, accelerated and apportioned with the aid of an impeller. The rotation of the turbine wheel in effect causes the abrasive to be ejected onto the workpiece surfaces. The beam of abrasive shot material is guided via an additionally fitted guiding sleeve. The blasting chambers are made of manganese carbon steel.

In a sand blasting machine, the abrasive is accelerated with the aid of compressed air. Typically this term refers to manually operated blasting machines. Workers in protective clothing will sand blast large workpieces by hand in a blasting room, for example. Another type of compressed-air blasting machine involves the use of blasting chambers. Here, the worker will reach through openings to manually process smaller workpieces. Sand has been used previously as abrasive material. Today, this is prohibited due to the risks associated with the exposure to quartz.

The difference lies in the means of acceleration used for the abrasive material. For turbine-wheel shot-blasting, a turbine wheel is used for the acceleration of abrasive material. This is achieved with the aid of compressed air in sandblasting.

AGTOS is offering all types of turbine-wheel shot-blast machines. This includes roller conveyor blast machines, hanger-type blast machines, tunnel-type blast machines (continuous shot-blast machines), rubber belt tumble-blast machines, steel mill tumble-blast machines, diabolo blast machines, rotary table blast machines, drum blast machines, and many more. The blasting chambers are made of manganese carbon steel. AGTOS is a company specialised in the manufacture of custom-built machinery, where customer-specific, individualised blasting machines are designed and manufactured. AGTOS' machines are designed for use with a wide range of abrasive shot material. AGTOS also sells pre-owned turbine-wheel shot-blast machines. These are brought up-to-date and adapted to meet the customer's requirements and are often re-painted. AGTOS also provides its customers with suitable spare and wear parts later on.

The turbine-wheel shot-blasting technique is used for industrial processes where a maximum of parts has to be shot-blasted in a minimum of time. This is where manual processing would require too much time.

For turbine wheel shot blasting, the abrasive material used consists of 90% steel due to the high energy with which the abrasive is ejected onto the workpiece surfaces. Round cast steel shot material ranging from 0.8 to 1.5 mm in diameter is often used. Angular cast steel shot material or sections of wire mesh can also be used. The required surface finish determines what type of abrasive should be used.

A cascade wind sifter is used for most applications. The abrasive is distributed and guided so that it forms a fine mist/veil. This is achieved by having the abrasive trickle over a wide edge. A cartridge filter unit generates a flow of air through the mist of abrasive material. Fines such as broken grain and dust are thus removed from the abrasive and separated via an impact separator and/or filter cartridges. In special cases like in foundries, for example, a magnetic sifter is fitted upstream of a cascade sifter and used to separate the abrasive metal material from the sand, and to discharge it.

AGTOS delivers worldwide to over 50 countries on all continents. AGTOS' customers can be found in a wide range of industrial sectors. This includes foundries, forges, the machine building sector, and the auto industry, for example.

AGTOS provides wear and spare parts for shot-blast machines from various manufacturers. This includes, for example: Carlo Banffi, Cogeim, DISA, Gietart, Kaltenbach, OMSG, Rump, Schlick, Wheelabrator, and Tosca.

First and foremost, there is the expertise of AGTOS employees. Shot-blasting machines are our passion. We develop custom solutions for all of the tasks our customers have to handle in the field of turbine-wheel shot-blasting. This knowledge is also incorporated in the design of standard machinery. The combination of older, more experienced employees with young colleagues from a variety of branches enables us to always find a suitable solution. Furthermore, we have modern design and manufacturing facilities at our disposal. Thanks to our long-standing expertise, we are familiar with each and every part of our machines. This enables us to recognise and eliminate weaknesses early on. We are building machines that are made to last. And this keeps us busy working in two to three shifts. We build machines that are robust and easy to use and maintain.

Apart from new machines, AGTOS also offers pre-owned shot-blast machines. These are adapted to meet the spatial requirements and quality standards of the customer. AGTOS' third product line involves the supply of spare and wear parts and the performance of inspection and repair tasks of turbine-wheel shot-blast machines of various manufacturers.

AGTOS' shot-blast machines are manufactured in the Konin plant in Poland. This is also where experienced and competent employees work in compliance with quality specifications set out by AGTOS.

Close to a third of all spare part orders is delivered the following day. Should delivery take longer, you will be notified promptly of when to expect the shipment.

AGTOS' customer services aim to provide prompt delivery of spare and wear parts, to give advice and implement modernisation and output increase measures for blasting machines, to offer remote maintenance and repair services, as well as consultation, instruction and training services.

An essential difference is the turbine and filter technology. AGTOS' high-performance turbines are robust and require little maintenance. Moreover, AGTOS' shot-blast machines are capable of a high abrasive shot flow rate while requiring the same amount of energy as other turbines. They offer high economic efficiency as a result. The filter cartridges can be easily pulled out and replaced in the clean gas area. Installation tasks require no time-consuming nut and bolt fittings. The machine features a robust and solid design made for a long service life. The blasting chambers are made of manganese carbon steel. Generously dimensioned service openings facilitate and expedite the performance of servicing tasks. In the end, it is the concept that wins over many customers.

Moreover, AGTOS' shot-blast machines are capable of a high abrasive shot flow rate while requiring the same amount of energy as other turbines. They offer high economic efficiency as a result. Due to the fact that AGTOS can offer wear parts for high-performance turbines that are made of various materials, it is possible to adapt these to changed production requirements with little effort. To this end, it is possible to replace worn parts with carbide parts that fit perfectly. This often results in the service life increasing to ten times its previous value.

Shot-blast machines, and particularly the turbine-wheel shot blasting technique, is used for the preparation and treatment of surfaces to handle such tasks as cleaning, removing of rust and scale, hardening and roughening to produce visually appealing surfaces or surface finishes.
No, you can also apply this technique to treat the surfaces of concrete parts such as concrete blocks, concrete slabs, or concrete pavers. In these cases, shot blasting is often used to produce visually appealing surfaces. The abrasive is used to eliminate fines on the surface and to bring out the texture of the concrete. AGTOS is also offering solutions in the field of turbine-wheel shot blasting for the preparation and treatment of other surfaces such as wood or plastics.
AGTOS is offering pre-owned shot-blast machines. We would happily provide you with current offerings.
AGTOS would be delighted to offer a pre-owned shot-blast machine to you, too. We would happily provide you with current offerings.

In many cases, we are able to help our customers by lending them a (pre-owned) shot-blast machine. This, however, is not always possible, but it might be well worth looking into.
